BIOGRAPHY

TRIGGERS: death, pregnancy, car accidents, hospitals

chaeyeong didn't expect this to happen. disgrace from her family was expected. what hunter knowingly enters a romantic relationship with a ghoul and thinks she can keep it a secret? she's a fool, but that doesn't stop hot tears from wetting her face as her father and chaewon kill donghyun in front of her. there's a hint of pity on her sister's face, barely noticable, but it does nothing to sooth her emotions. what makes it worse is that she was coming home to tell donghyun that the pregnancy tests (she had taken three to be completely sure) had come back positive.

her parents wish that she terminates her pregnancy. the ghoul species is terrifyingly rare, thanks to the work that hunters have accomplished in dwindling their numbers. not much is known in how a human body will take to carrying a child of a ghoul. she refuses repeatedly, stating that she's done with hunting and that all she wants is to raise her child in peace. her upbringing is not one that she wishes on anyone else, one filled with the fear of knowing too much about the world around her. just a week after donghyun's death, chaeyeoung retires, leaving the agency her family has worked with for centuries.

the pregnancy is terrible, every day is a battle. she's sickeningly happy when she feels the pains of labor months before the due date. finally, finally it would be over. chaeyeong begs the doctor to call chaewon and chaewon only. her sister is the only one she can trust, despite everything she saw that night. when she arrives by chaeyeong's side, she understands immediately what will happen.

chaeyeong dies, of course she does. before her eyes close for the last time, she tells her sister to check the notebook she brought with her to the hospital. less than half the pages are filled, and it's closer to a small journal than a notebook but it details enough about what she wants for her child than chaeyeong could have told her in the time she had left. chaewon doesn't allow herself to cry. hunters don't get that luxury. the child is named haru, the word for day because it's what chaeyeong wanted in the notebook, and xe's absolutely beautiful. from what she could tell, haru isn't a ghoul. xer eyes are human and reflexes are fine and everything is normal. a miracle baby, born of a human and a ghoul. chaeyeong wanted xem to be raised unknowing of what lays beyond the eyes of a regular person, so that's what chaewon and her wife, divya, do.

from a young age, haru is told two things. one, xer moms loves xem very very much. two, xe has a rare blood condition which is why xe should be extremely cautious at all times. cautious of what? everything. haru is not allowed to spend unsupervised time out of the house, lest xe's hurt without one of xer moms nearby. when xe asks what exactly is wrong with xem, the same answer is given: "baby, nothing is wrong with you, you just need a little extra care!". it's almost robotic. questions about where xer moms work are artfully dodged until haru simply stops asking.

haru hits xer rebellious period at age twelve. xe sneaks out in the middle of the night to go to the skatepark with friends that don't consider themselves friends to haru as much as xe does them. it's just a little dare, but it has haru ringing xer doorbell in tears at two in the morning on a school night. divya is the one that opens the door, and she immediately yells for chaewon. the injury isn't that bad once the blood is rinsed away, but the hiccupping sobs don't disappear with it. haru thinks xe's going to die because of the "blood thing" that "you always told me to be careful of!" one of xer moms wipes xer tears with gentle hands, but she doesn't do anything to relieve xer anxieties. maybe the fear would teach haru a lesson in keeping xer body from getting hurt again.

imagine the joy on chaewon's face when haru shows enthusiasm in music and singing. she tells xem about how xer birth mother was a wonderful singer and would be overjoyed seeing how well haru is doing xemself. practically stuck inside most of the time, haru finds solace in music. piano and guitar come as easily to xem as singing does. it comes to no surprise when xe enrolls in college at eighteen as a music theory major.

it's a state school, not more than forty minutes from home, but that doesn't stop how anxious divya and chaewon are. sure, the blood condition isn't real. that was the only way that they could keep haru safe. the reasoning is built entirely on suspicions that they hope never have to be verified. haru's grown up now. whatever happens is likely out of their hands.

classes go as well as they can and haru is a little more than just overwhelmed with everything college has to offer. it's open, free, completely different from what xe's used to. surprisingly, xe adapts quickly. right after the winter semester of xer second year of college, haru is approached by someone claiming that they're in a band. unfortunately, haru has no sense of self preservation, so when the person (who introduces themself as techno) asks xem to join said band, xe finds it difficult to say no. fortunately, everything is perfectly fine. when xe arrives to the first band meeting and is initiated as an official member (lead singer!), xe's terrified. being the youngest and the newest and apparently a replacement since the last lead singer disappeared or something was a little nervewracking.

it only takes a few weeks for xem to become comfortable with the other three in FRUITPUNCH. the concept's fun, the members are nice enough, and the music is damn good. xe starts slacking just a little in studies, but who cares about academia when dreams were being built right here!? sure, the shows FRUITPUNCH played were small and the sets were only a few songs long and the audience wasn't entirely excited, but that didn't matter. the company the band was under ensured success.

until the band ended up going on hiatus right in the middle of xer first semester of xer third year. it's a little disheartening, but at least xe can focus on studying again. at least this, haru knows. it's not as unstable as being a musician is.

winter is finishing up, the green of healthy grass is peaking through the snow. the groundhog didn't see his shadow this year. haru's closest friend talks enthusiastically about how there's a movie shooting near campus, and how the famous actor mononymously known as angel is starring in it. in order to appease xer friend, haru agrees to meet at a coffee shop a few blocks away from where the movie is said to be shot under the guise that they will not be weird about it.

on xer way there, a car slams into haru's, causing a small domino effect where xe crashes into the car in front of xem. haru doesn't find out about this because xe's unconcious, but the driver that crashed into xem was dead on impact, and the one in front had none other than angel themself in the backseat.

chaewon and divya arrive to the hospital within minutes of receiving the call. if their suspicions are right, then haru won't be responding to any blood transfusions no matter how many typing tests they run. why should they? none of the donated blood will be from a ghoul anyway. the chances of finding a ghoul in such short notice was almost impossible.

and then chaewon watches doctors wheel in angel. it's a deus ex machina and it's almost laughable. the actor was one that was known to be a ghoul to hunters, their name one of the few in the agency's database. angel's always been too high profile for anything to be done, though. divya volunteers herself to act as a visitor for angel while chaewon monitors haru. angel suffered minimal injuries, which makes the deal that divya makes a little easier. it's simple: blood donations in exchange for protection from hunters for the next five years. angel is no fool, they accept immediately and save haru's life.

xer moms expected nothing to happen of it. it's only some blood. haru will live and nothing else will happen because at the end of the day, xe's just a human with ghoul blood. as easy as that. haru is out of the hospital quickly after that, healthy as can be.

haru experiences a few changes to xer personality. previously having been timid and reserved, xe now has no problems in being impulsive and overenthusiastic. FRUITPUNCH's agency contacts xem shortly after, mentioning that they plan on the band coming off hiatus soon. xe takes on the stage name cherry and all mentions of xer real name in relation to the group is hidden in an attempt to be more enigmatic. cherry also drops out of college. two weeks after the announcement that FRUITPUNCH is back, their manager disappears (click here to read about that).

as FRUITPUNCH gains popularity, cherry tries to keep xer peculiar diet (humans...) under wraps. xe is unaware of what exactly xe is, but cherry does know that xe is not human. the band is quickly on the rise and is doing much better than what they were before the hiatus.

FRUITPUNCH

FRUITPUNCH is a four membered alternative rock band with lead singer cherry. they have a unique concept where they alternate album styles with every release. one album is 'fruit', meaning more light and leaning into pop, while 'punch' albums are a little heavier and darker. the group was formed in 2017. in 2018, the original lead singer left the group due to unexplained circumstances and current whereabouts are unknown. the band does not discuss them, and even cherry seems to be unaware of much regarding the singer. cherry joined FRUITPUNCH as the new lead singer in early 2019 and for obvious reasons considering xer voice. unfortunately, the band went on an agency implemented hiatus from 2019 and came back in 2020 with an unexpected full length album that encompassed both fruit and punch sounds. cherry was involved in an accident before the comeback, but xe shows no signs of it having ever happened. since then, FRUITPUNCH has only shown an upward growth.

LORE

ORIGIN. ghouls predate the creation of vampires by a few decades. the species was conceived through the summoning of a demon gone wrong. intending to gain supernatural powers to "take over the world" the person who performed the summoning was offered a choice by the demon. of course, said choice wasn't very fair. the person ended up almost dying in exchange for heightened power, senses, and stamina. through their back protruded a weapon like organ capable of massive damage. the only downside was that they had to give up their humanity. the only way that the person could survive was through eating humans. many others met a similar fate as them and procreated. all children of two ghouls were ghouls as well. much, much more rare were half ghouls, or more commonly called one-eyed ghouls.

CURRENT STATUS. while the species was nearly as prolific as the vampires that came after them, the numbers dwindled quickly. due to their more dangerous nature, supernatural hunters targeted them first. now, they are so unknown that they rarely appear even in mythical appendices unless you are looking at the right one. the species is close to extinction and only a small handful are living to this day.

ATTRIBUTES AND ABILITIES. ghouls have to eat humans to survive. preferably, said human is fresh, but hungry ghouls don't care about the difference in taste. food that humans eat taste just awful, and young ghouls find it difficult to eat it even to keep up appearances. older, more experienced ghouls have built a tolerance to human food and are able to eat small portions to appear human to everyone else. still, they have to throw it up within a few hours. coffee and water are the two human foods/drinks that they can consume. coffee will actually satiate their hunger for a bit. all ghouls have an organ that protrudes through their back and emerges when they would like. this organ is called a telum. usually, this would be while they are feeding or in a fight. when not in use, the telum is about the size of the spleen and sits near a kidney. there are four different types of telums that have their own benefits/weaknesses in battle. additionally, when the telum is activated, the ghouls eyes will have black scleras and red irises. sharp/pointed teeth appear and nails extend into claws to assist in attacks, defense, and capturing/eating prey.

ONE-EYED GHOULS. one-eyed ghouls are very uncommon. a female ghoul procreating with a male human will never have a successful pregnancy as the environment would be too toxic to develop in for the fetus. a ghoul male and human female can have a child, but it is risky, unlikely, and always results in premature birth and the death of the mother. the baby is born human. all attributes of the child are human and will remain human until death unless the blood or an organ of a full ghoul is transferred to them. there is a specific molecule in the blood that must be activated for ghoul traits to appear. additionally, the one-eyed ghoul will never be able to have blood or organs donated to them from a regular human. one-eyed ghouls can ingest human food without consequence, however the food will be flavorless and have an unappealing texture. they still have to eat human flesh to survive, though it can be pushed off longer (about a week) if necessary. they do not recieve any nutritional benefits from regular food. like full ghouls, coffee can be used to satiate their hunger if needed. in half ghouls, the left eye is a 'ghoul eye', which is why they are called one-eyed ghouls. they heal quickly from injuries that were caused by a human, but require more time to heal from injuries due to another ghoul or supernatural creature.

CHERRY. cherry is a one-eyed ghoul and xer telum manifests as a wing-like weapon that appear near their shoulder blades. they are lightweight and allows cherry to attack at a high speed. this is best for fighting long distance and can be used as a shield. the stamina of people with this version of the telum depletes rather quickly. click this link for more elaboration on the weapon, hunger, and feeding as it applies specifically to cherry.

VERSES

MAIN. follows the written bio
GHOUL - COLLEGE. xe has xer half ghoul awakening after the accident but FRUITPUNCH never comes off hiatus and is eventually disbanded. xe simply goes back to college & continues studying music theory while trying to hide the fact that xe's a ghoul.
HUMAN - BAND. xe doesn't have xer half ghoul awakening after the accident but FRUITPUNCH happens as normal and the band slowly starts gaining popularity with cherry being the lead singer. the accident changes xer outlook on life and xe realizes it's not worth it to be scared of being hurt.
OLDER. click here for verse information. haru is 27-28 years old in this verse and no longer in the public eye. xe is now a supernatural hunter like xer family was and xer ghoul traits are surpressed.
PRODUCER. fruitpunch never makes a return after their hiatus and are just considered done, haru never gets into the accident so xe doesn't become a ghoul. xe goes back to college & in xer junior year, xe starts working part time with production team supernova, which he joins full time after graduation under the producer name cherry.
